Like the pull of an enormous galactic ocean Max Corbacho’s compositions here heave and roll in tranquil immensity, waves and swells of sound shifting, rising, falling in multiple tides. Having the cover art in mind one can’t escape the association between the mesmeric music and the lush colours of the visual imagery – vivid tonal hues bathe the senses in deep saturation, fluid drones and glossy textures luxuriating in endless expanse. Shadows of purple, indigo and mauve seem perfect for this music since there is a gorgeous gloom laying down a constant undertow to the infusions of warmth and soft brightnesses that light the way. Each track fades gently into the next in such a fluid way as to act as an unbroken whole, the relative fleeting nature of the central tracks emphatic and tight whilst embraced by the overarching tenor and traction of the central theme such that their contributions are of equal weight.

Source of Present arrives in a richly-hued card digipack of two panels. Cover art, created by Max Corbacho himself, is intriguingly ambiguous and engrossing: twin bands of crystalline light shaft across the front cover in lustrous diagonals, darkness massing around like an enveloping shroud. Purple depths support lilac and ice-blue highlights, each in constant interplay with the other. The rear cover holds track titles, the inner left panel presents relevant credits and website information; simple, minimal, elegant.

This latest album from Spanish ambient master Max Corbacho delivers a highly refined ambient experience. This is serene, floatation music of a sublime nature – delicate, subtle, serene, carrying the listener afar. Tracks range from the twenty three minute forty four second opener The Beginning of Remembering via three shorter pieces, Transparent Phenomena being the shortest at just less than four and a half minutes, to a pair of epics at the end of nearly nineteen and thirteen minutes respectively. Max Corbacho seems to sink his beautiful sounds in ever greater lustre and sheen – the clarity, vibrance and intensity of Source of Present being top notch.

Dear friends,

«Arte Magnetica» is available now as a SPECIAL OFFER for all my followers, under the option «NAME YOUR PRICE», that is, from zero to whatever you want!!.

During these last months, the activity in the studio has been intense, with the completion of the details for the next album «Source Of Present» scheduled for September or first weeks of October and the creation of this six pieces for «Arte Magnetica». This current edition is only available for now in digital format and is not expected a physical edition. Download here your digital copy now!!.

«Now available a new collection of sound spaces created under the influence of the extreme atmospheric conditions of these last weeks. This set of sound waves molded in chords and soft complex textures creates a feeling of constant flow, mutating into different sound pieces. These six pieces are created to be reproduced in continuous succession in the order that the artist has created them. Max excavates in each of the six tracks a new sonic sculpture, influenced by the quiet atmosphere of the long hot summer days, where nature falls asleep to the song of the cicadas. This music reflects the power of the earth, its influence on us and the way it molds us, gently and in multiple layers of sounds and waves that project us into a new, deeper stillness. The pieces have been developed in the studio throughout the month of July and the first week of August, in an intimate experience, aligned with the telluric forces emanating from this our beloved planet. The different tracks range from the extreme darkness of Monolith to the evocative, mystical force and serenity of Transcircle. «

Enjoy these new soundscapes directly from my personal store in Bandcamp, here:
http://maxcorbacho.bandcamp.com/album/arte-magnetica

As always, infinite thanks for accompanying me on this fascinating journey called life, and for supporting my work as an artist. Without you, this music would not exist. All the best,
Max Corbacho
www.maxcorbacho.com

In the coming days, it will be launched on all digital portals, Spotify, and all other Streaming services.
Indalo is a record taken from an old collaboration with my friend and composer Bruno Sanfilippo. Released in 2003 as a CD, for several years this work has been unavailable in any format, both digital and physical, in spite of being habitual in the schedules of radio stations like Heart of Space, Star’s End and others. After continuing receiving many requests from fans during all this time, and in response to this demand, Indalo will be available as a digital release through maxcorbacho.com. To further improve the experience and rediscovery of this work, two unreleased tracks have been added to the original seven in the Bandcamp download. These two tracks were created during the year 2002 and presented as candidates to appear on the album. In the end, they were not selected and have remained hidden all these years. Today, I think the addition of these two forgotten tracks add interest to a work that many of my new followers do not know, but I think they will like it. The album, by express wish of Bruno, is credited only and definitely as a solo album by Max Corbacho in a new and redesigned cover art. Hope all you enjoy this music. Order the Digital Download direct from Bandcamp.
This is all for now, please keep in touch, I hope to send you more news soon!

Loving… «The Ocean Inside» by Max Corbacho.
Music has a special place in my life. It has the power to inspire … the power to encourage and build up in ways the other arts cannot. It is accessible. I can experience poignant moments of joy and beauty in the most unlikely of places … all I need is a pair of headphones, a music-player and the right music.

It has to be right. If the wrong song were to be played, my inspiration will be taken to places I do not want it to go or am ill prepared for at that moment in time.

This is why I love ambient electronic music so much. It consistently takes me to a place of inspiration … a place of rest and relaxation … a place of peace and of beauty.

I’m not decrying other styles of music. Cacophonous sounds have there place … Bolt Thrower have their place in my life and on my music-player. But their style takes me to a different place – a place of energy and movement – rather than a place of peace.

I say all this because I am currently in a place of peace. I am writing this in a very busy Starbucks in Glasgow with the music of «the ocean inside» by Max Corbacho playing on my headphones.

The coffeehouse is teeming with life. Italian Juventus fans are passionately debating their victor over Glasgow Celtic the night before. The bustle is intoxicating and yet I am at peace – inspired by the utterly delightful and deeply immersive soundscapes from Corbacho.

This demonstrates the power of the music presented by Corbacho – layers of synths that lap around the listener like waves of the sea … waves of sound that enthral me … waves that remind me of the simple pleasure of standing barefoot at the edge of the sea … the water lapping at my toes. There is nothing quite like that feeling … and Corbacho has expertly crafted his music to remind us of it.

This is music for the head … music that creates a mental sanctuary from all the busyness that life represents. It affords a time-out that only the best soundscapes can … one that fully immerses and engages the listener … allowing them to let go.

The tracks are expertly blended so that «the ocean inside» feels more like a longform drone rather than a set of disparate tracks. For many this is the best of both worlds … cohesion without the commitment of a single sitting.

Even so, some of the tracks are meatier than others – «towards the bottom of the ocean» (track 8 of the 1st CD) weighs in at 29:31 and «deeper into the ocean» (track 6 of the 2nd CD) comes close at 24:08. The whole recording clocks in at 148 minutes. I find this is remarkable.

In fact, I find the whole release remarkable. It stands out from the ambient set in terms of duration, quality and melody. As such, I would heartily recommend it.
http://www.headphonaught.co.uk/2013/02/loving-ocean-inside-by-max-corbacho.html

Channeling the future, October 4, 2009

Max Corbacho is the best music find for me in 2009. Max, from Spain, has hit a strong vein of ambient, even spiritual, music that is spacey yet transformative. This CD, Breathstream, is a goldmine, a near masterpiece. I like it very much and consider it slightly better than his very good ‘The Resonant Memory of Earth’.

This work is a ‘near’ masterpiece because the 2nd track ‘Act of Light’ is a little too dark and rambly. Contrast this to the 6th track ‘Temple of Dissolution’ which is one of the most powerful pieces of sound work I have ever heard. These tracks are especially great for meditation or creative tasks including cloud or surf watching .

If you are into Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Vidna Obmana, or similar, then you will find this work very suprising and gratifying.

Paul Rijkens, E-dition magazine

The Spaniard Max Corbacho is a master in creating atmospheres. It is not the first time that I have put my admiration for his music in writing, for «The Talisman» this will not be different. Stronger: in my opinion with this album he has created his best work until now. Armed with modern synthesizers like Korg Triton and Z1, he makes wonderful stretched sounds that together form a magnificent moody image. But the music absolutely not sounds if he uses the presets from these instruments. The cd has eleven tracks but they all flow into each other in an intriguing way. Corbacho’s sounds are warm, intense, deep but also accessible. Actually, he goes further where Steve Roach, apparently a great example, has started long ago. It sounds like a text of an advertisement or tearsheet but I can’t help it because you must undergo this music like a warm glow. Tracks like «Reborn To Expansion», «Three Circles», «The Talisman» (especially this one) and «Cellular Memory» are absolute masterpieces in this ambient/space-area.

For me personally the music of Max Corbacho is the absolute top in this genre at this moment.
It seems a pleasure for me to see this man live some time.

Morpheus Music & The Mall Magazine

MUSIC

Smooth, synthetic ambient zones. This is an album of immersive atmopheres without beat or melody, designed to set the listener adrift. Welling up like waves on the shore, washes of tone arise and roll one over another in constant succession – some deep and sonorous, some light, thin, others full of sonic detritus caught in the tide – percussive rattles like churning pebbles. Ever-receeding surges of sound drain back into the next wave. As the album pulls away from the shoreline the electronic ocean becomes dark and obscure in places, floating forms drifting by, heavy masses of tone heaving and pulling. Tracks blend one into another, the only indication of a progression usually being a lessening of intensity, a lightness as if surfacing momentarily. New tracks subtly intorduce fresh voices into the mix and some shifts of scale.

ARTWORK

Liquid ripples and solarised reflections fill two panels of the cover booklet in rich blues, turquoises, terracotta hues and dark shadows. The title text sitting in a heavy border of shadow near the base. On the reverse an ambiguous out of focus photo-image works as backdrop for the titles and an explanation of the project. Within we find a gear list, recording details and credits, some special thanks and contact information – this is presented on a white background with an accompanying monochrome reflection image.

OVERALL

For his third album, Max Corbacho presents four longform pieces ranging from just over six minutes to thirty eight minutes fifteen seconds. Designed for continuous playback – the tone is generally a serious one drifting somewhere in between warmth and cold. The concept behind the music is that of the «earth call» – what Max describes as «that feeling pulling us away from the cities to seek contact with the rock, the earth and water …». A strong sense of space with something of the viscosity of liquid pervades this album – the listener is able to feel suspended in sound, surrounded in all directions, afloat, immersed

Andy Garibaldi, CD Services

Of the sixty seven minutes and six tracks on this excellent space music album, three of the tracks and about 30 minutes of music, feature electronic and ethnic percussive rhythms under the vast sounding cosmic synth layers and textures and melodies that are the heart and soul of the entire album. That said, for me, this is nothing short of superb as the rhythmic tracks still have all the feel and warmth and universal wide-eyed qualities of the non-rhythmic ones, but they introduce a new foundation to the music that gives it added strength and solidity, purposeful direction to the drift. Overall, though the music is simply stunning as the musician constructs these giant synth compositions that flow to the stars on unending layers of synth music heaven. Simply, a brilliant album.

Paul Rijkens, Dutch progressive rockmagazine iO Pages

On his records, Spaniard Max Corbacho follows the footsteps of the groundbreaking American ambientcomposer Steve Roach. He does this solo and in collaboration with somebody like Bruno Sanfilippo on the CD Indalo (look in iO Pages 54 for a review). The on CDR released Moontribe contains four tracks from the period 2000-2001 that not have seen the light earlier and two new pieces from 2003. Corbacho’s music is high-grade, intense and very relaxing. The tribal rhythms that know so well from Roach are present regularly, just as the most fantastic ambientsounds that are created with much care. These sounds form a warm bed as cover for the special rhythms. Unknown Radiance is a great example of this. Corbacho’s music is really of the biggest quality. Actually he goes further there where the music of Roach has become a little less good the last years. The unbelievable great and intriguing atmosphere of tracks like Across The Spectrum and the titletrack are of an unprecedented beauty that I consider masterpieces. In the genre this is the absolute top.
