In this new work, Max Corbacho captures a specific sonic chiaroscuro, music that is simultaneously dark and luminous, dense yet weightless. The album follows an emotional arc that begins with the surreal, nearly atonal textures of «Persistent Mirage», gradually unfolding into a minimalist, layered expanse where deep resonant undulations and shimmering clarity coexist.

An extended version of Fragment of a Dream was recorded during the recording sessions for The Delicate Essence of Solitude. Max Corbacho now presents the complete piece, an enigmatic drone of slow development through dark and atmospheric sounds, almost as if it were a dream itself.

Fragment of a Dream beautifully captures the dreamlike essence of pure ambient sound, combining brightness with darkness. The music feels like a warm, dark veil that envelops the listener and transports them to another universe. A ghostly twilight light invades the beginning of this new album by ambient artist Max Corbacho. If this sound emanating effortlessly from the depths of Max’s studio can be transcribed into color, the chosen color would be sunset magenta. The whispering, slow synth lines come and go in a wave of blurred sound, thus unidentifiable, in a sea of reverberation, echoes and resonances in the ocean of time. Max Corbacho traces in these three pieces the quintessence of his art developed for more than 20 years with a mysterious creation. An epiphany of pure, atmospheric and minimal ambient sound.

Words do not describe music. Words describe feelings, of memories, of special places. How then, to describe the latest exploration into the extraordinary soundscapes of revered Spanish electronic musician Max Corbacho? The trick is in the name of his latest 2022 release: Atmospheric Twilight. Of course! A 74 minute long-form composition in three parts.
From start to finish, we are neither standing on terra firma, nor swimming in mysterious oceans, nor wandering light-filled cathedrals of sound. We are, in fact, cast adrift! Without tether through skies bathed in the glow of the last photons of a sinking sun – reaching out at the start of our journey in three compositions across tracts of incandescent aquamarine (pt.1). Before heading towards darkening skies of tangerine (pt.2). And finally reaching journey’s end in the ink-blue dusk of a gathering starry night (pt.3).
So, settle back in a comfortable chair, put on your finest headphones, and prepare to float away into those unnamable landscapes which exist beneath the threshold of sleep!
Part One, Atmospheric Twilight [45 minutes]. The opening title track drops us deep into the upper atmosphere of [our world?] in a rising murmuration of sound. Musical notes fade up around us: parts organic, orchestral, unknowable. An indeterminate layering of sound that instills the impression of a vast space between us, the listener, and anything recognisable. Constantly evolving clouds of sound, forever broiling in upon themselves and which occasionally flash with siren notes emerging from deep within. But we are moving! Imperceptibly, the music is thinning out – replaced by higher octaves of tenuous chords. Deceiving us into thinking we are swiftly emerging into wider, more open skies. Around us the compass of horizon falls away as the music rises in harmony. We are climbing higher towards the exosphere, towards space itself. A fine vantage point to observer the sun begin its lazy fall beneath the horizon as the music fades away in vast eternal spirals of sound. Slowly settling us into silence.
Part Two, Stillness Glow [13 minutes]. Is it the earth that moves, or just us? A vortex of sound rising from the deep surges upwards, surrounding us in a brisk allegretto soundscape, imbued with light; with hope. A richly woven filigree of sounds which are impossible to identify as individual notes, conjoining into one muscular harmony, rising, cascading, calling out. Together. Individually. And then lost out of hearing. These sounds! These wonderful sounds: they glow!
Part Three, Dusk Awakes [16 minutes]. A minor chord of sound suggests a tension that builds over time into a typhoon of swirling sounds – but always far out and beneath the horizon. They dance a featherlight symphony in our ears. These are digital loops of sound design that are finely controlled to make us feel…wondrous anticipation! Not long now, we imagine, until journey’s end. We still float through open space yet a subtle pitch in the music somehow makes this vast space exponentially larger. The ability of Max to use imaginative harmonies, interweaving and coiling around one another, inevitably reaches down to the core of our feelings at this very moment. We are lured into complete somnolence, yet, our imaginations roam large. And thus, with eyes wide open, we float into that final acoustical dusk of complete peace. A dusk made so much more joyful by the extraordinary sound and vision that is Max Corbacho.

Equinox is a sound distillation from an idea created in 2019 that has taken definitive form in recent months as a serene, breathing, bright and positive long track. Equinox, the latest journey into pure audio-emotion from Max Corbacho, the revered electronic soundscape artist from Spain. Max has a history of sublime, expansive music, experienced as though the listener is walking through a cathedral of light. In fact, his big open-space, sound textures are a trademark; music synonymous with stepping between the pillars of the Cathedral de Barcelona, feeling the sunlight from the stained-glass windows, moving through moments of tranquility and reflection at one moment. Of diaphanous energy at another. An equinox of equal discoveries: stillness and activity!
Equinox is his latest release, and the perfect example of Max Corbacho at his most powerful. I like to describe his music in terms of colours and landscapes. The longform piece, 1hr 14 minutes in total, begins with gentle tendrils of sound, like ripples across a lake, insinuating their ways into your headspace. Building in momentum and complexity over 30 minutes as current of sound takes hold of the listener. Soft streams of tenuous emotion build up, some stronger than others and and pushing to the front of the sound experience. The ripples become a gentle wind across water, coalescing into a heady mixture of equal moments of quietness and energy – a true equinox!
By midway, the sound is swirling in muscular currents and bright washes of light – in expressions of sound that cannot be described in words, only in a radiance of emotion to affect each listener in their particular flavour of feelgood. The same uplift as the simple joy of warm sun on your face, a fresh breeze, and a dramatic landscape stretching out to the horizon. Shut your eyes, experience without words the kaleidoscope of colours beneath your eyelids – these are Max Corbacho sounds made real.
As the music recedes in a gentle tide, as evening descends across this soundscape, the last 25 minutes leave the listener with an afterglow of fulfilment. Of carefree joy finally being granted. The streams and currents of sound pull back into mysterious realms. Until finally, we anticipate and then experience the return of absolute silence. And all is good with our world. A silence made so much more joyful by the extraordinary sound/vision from the creative source that is Max Corbacho.

Quiet, slow-motion floating minimalism is one of the foundations in the music of Max Corbacho, explored in all of his previous albums. In Max words: «Comprised of three signature sonic meditations, the album was born from serene atmospheric synth layers flowing through a source of warm tranquility. This is a place of solace wellness where you can immerse yourself during long listening sessions. Almost all of the tracks on my albums are created as midi sequences on my synthesizers and hardware processors through my mixing console. In the case of this album there is no computer process except in the mastering stage. While I am creating these soundscapes I often lose all contact with the perception of time, everything remains in a long, weightless and sincere moment, untouched by the past or future, only an instant without beginning or end.”

Lost Links II – The Complete Collection presents us with a series of tracks that help us interpret the evolution of Max Corbacho as an electronic artist. Evocative and ethereal forms merge into ghostly drones and colorful chords linking each track with successive albums, tracing a trajectory of more than 20 years as an atmospheric ambient artist.
This music, unknown to most of the public, has remained largely hidden for years. Some of these tracks are known by a few to be published in compilations of various artists. Other tracks were released by the Relaxed Machinery label in the first version of this album. Some others have never been published. They are now compiled by the artist and released on a double album.

Deleted, unreleased, and forgotten tracks

Some pieces in this album were included in compilations of various artists by other labels, but most of them were created to appear on previously published albums. For various reasons, they were not included and remained in my archives. I usually do not delete any of my pieces, as I know that at some point, simply because of the passing of time, they acquire a special character. Their time to be revealed appears.

Lost Links was originally released in 2011 by the Relaxed Machinery label as a single album.
On Disk 1, there are nine new tracks rescued from my archives. Some were included in compilations, and others are completely unreleased. Disk 2 contains the original album released by Relaxed Machinery.

Catacombs of Perception, Slow Thunder, and Third Exposure are three pieces that belonged to an early version of The Talisman.
The Present Miracle and Ceremonial Sky (included in the soundtrack of the cult game Neocron) are pieces that were created around 2001–2002.
After Dream, North Rose Alignment, and Beyond Vaults were created for Ars Lucis but were ultimately not included in the album.
Oversoul and Slow Rust were included in compilations for the Atmoworks and Relaxed Machinery labels, respectively.
In Mind, Spirit, and Light was created in 2006 and never released.
Earthflow Trance was specially composed for a concert in 2005.
One True Light and Mandala were created during the sessions for BreathStream.
Endless Formations was created for a collaboration album that was not made.

Nocturnes III closes the trilogy started in 2017 by Max Corbacho, continuing in this new installment the exploration of stillness and primordial, organic themes, through the mystical connection with his synthesizers. Through that physical, intimate, organic and tactile interaction with his fully hardware instruments Max can more deeply convey his sonic world with an incredibly sensitive, deep and detailed touch. For the occasion the artist has resorted to his entire sonic palette based on both analog and digital synthesizers, as well as an elaborate archive of samples and organic atmospheres. A hauntingly surreal soundscape opens the album, gliding quietly across the stages of the mists of time. Altar Of Stillness is an intense and multi-layered textured work that dates back in its creation to the time of the 2003 album «Indalo». This track has been mutating all these years through subtle transformations until it has reached its current form, ready to open this new Corbacho collection. The subtlety of an artist in his creative maturity crystallizes the following tracks as immense unfathomable expanses of sound, from the organically surreal Sleeptime Spores to the infinite mercurial chords of Skywatchers. The feeling of nocturnalness prevails throughout the album but it is a luminous, radiant nocturnal feel, appealing to mystical telluric forces of the night, its mystery and its unfathomable meaning in the human psyche. With the soft and intricate fabric of these sound worlds, Max traces a quiet path in which to immerse ourselves in a unique experience.
As described in the two preceding installments, the inspiration for the Nocturnes trilogy came from Corbacho’s night photography featured in the series artwork. In Max’s words: «Nocturnes III completes the trilogy begun in 2017. I remember the feeling of excitement and amazement experienced during my nocturnal excursions to these places. Showing these photographs as a wrapper for these new soundscapes inspired by calm and mystery is the best way to share these feelings. The most vivid memory of these nights is the silence, the stillness, the sparkling light of the stars and the sweet fragrance of thyme that permeates everything in these regions of Aragon in Spain «.

Static soundscapes have always been part of Max’s work since his beginnings as an ambient artist more than two decades ago. Dreaming Spaces is a 73 min long reflection about the space where we live, balancing presence and stillness, exploring the weightless flow of sound in a serene multispace of imperceptible changes over time. The sound elements come and go just like a supernatural breeze. Max’s synthesizers create a deep game of an exotic and surreal sound perfume.
Max says: «I have completed this piece in the last weeks of November to share with all my followers on dates of a special sensitivity. I have not used any type of sample for this sound work. I always use some brushstroke coming from my samplers but in Dreaming Spaces everything comes in real time from my synthesizers, seasoned with the effect processors. That way I have maintained an intimacy in the sound landscape that gives it a special homogeneity and absolute immersion in the space of tranquility. «

Dreaming Spaces is a celebration of the static and the deep for the change of the year, a serene illumination in the middle of the shadows and a call to life and hope.
